FUPA 101

Each week, 11 people chip in $10 and bet an 11-team $110 parlay.

$110 (11) team parlay — payouts should be in the $100-200k range, $5k-10k payout per person after tax.

How do we enter/select our picks?

It’s a real parlay, so the board has to stay clean — bad overlap tanks the actual odds we’re betting. That means:

  • We need 11 qualifying legs.
  • Nobody can bet both sides of the same game.
  • No two picks in the same parlay can be on the same game — doubling up tanks the odds. On a multi-parlay week, each parlay can claim a game independently.

Picks open Thu 9:45pm ET and close Sat 11:00am ET — first come, first served. Submit at /submit.

If you’re not in the parlay that week, it doesn’t matter who you take — your pick won’t affect the parlay, so pick whoever you want. But if you arein the parlay, the longer you wait to submit, the fewer games will still be open — the game picker on the Submit Picks page shows you what’s still available.

Week 1 is the one exception. That week, every member is “in the parlay” — instead of one board, we run several parlays at once, with team captains drafting from the full pool of submitted picks to build each one.

Betting Guidelines — we want to win some real money!!
  • NO MONEY LINE FAVORITES THAT ARE BELOW -115
  • SPREADS CAN BE UP TO -125
  • NO PROPS THAT ARE BELOW -115

One pick per game, per parlay — once a game is claimed (spread, total, or prop) the whole game is off the board for everyone else in that parlay. On a normal week there’s one parlay, so that’s simply one pick per game. On a shotgun-start week the field is split across several drafted parlays, and each parlay gets its own board — the same game can be claimed once in each, but never twice inside the same one.

The weekly tiebreaker is mandatory — pick MNF or the NCAAF tiebreaker game and give a total. It’s not optional and it can’t be skipped.

Payouts

Here’s how FUPA payouts are calculated, the figure is your actual payout, I’ve already estimated taxes on the win so that is the least you will receive in cash, it could be more depending on what the accountant says. Payouts on the parlay are based on the odds of your individual bet. Each member will be paid according to the odds of your bet.

That’s it, that’s the point of the entire group, let’s get some sharp bettors with diverse opinions together and win a fat parlay every week.

BUT winning a parlay with odds this high is very difficult, so we try to make it worthwhile for those who are picking well and punish those who are blowing it!

Parlay Winners / Losers

There are 198 total picks per season (11 x 18). Each parlay pick that is lost will cost you $15 on top of the $10 you put in to be in that week’s parlay — so a losing week runs you $25 all in. Each parlay win will be worth an equal “share” of the money paid by the losers.

So for example, if we win 100 of the 198 possible games (59.5%), the payout per parlay win would be $14.7 per game. I will track this and run a tab during the season.

Relegation

OK — well we have way more than 11 people in the group, so how do we decide who gets to be in the parlay on any given week?

We will use a 6 week moving average on your bets to determine your standing in the Association.

Relegated members: Associate members/relegated members will still make picks to show a history of win %, we will upgrade an associate member into one of the 11 full-member spots once their win % is in the top 11.

Season Championship

We also want to remain competitive throughout and reward those who have shown continuous success over the entire season. We do a season long side-pot of $50 per person — this buy-in is mandatory for every member.

At the end of the year, we will split that pot amongst every FUPA member that has picked above 60%, we call it The 600 club. In sports gambling, to break even, you must win 60% of your bets (to overcome a standard 10% juice) anything less than that and you are a loser.

Every member picks every week— even while eliminated from the early-season tournament (you just won’t be in a parlay). Missing a week, or submitting after the Saturday lock, is a DNP(did not participate). Everyone gets one free DNP per season; a second DNP disqualifies you from the 600 Club for that season. DNPs don’t touch your win-loss record.

We split the winnings in this fashion:

For example, 4 members were all above .600 last season (in 2023 there were only 2)

  • Player 1 — 15 wins — 15 wins / 49 total wins = 30% of the pot
  • Player 2 — 12 wins — 12 wins / 49 total wins = 24.5% of the pot
  • Player 3 — 11 wins — 11 wins / 49 total wins = 22.45% of the pot
  • Player 4 — 11 wins — 11 wins / 49 total wins = 22.45% of the pot

We also award the #1 FUPA member with a giant trophy in their Honor.

Trimester Skins

An optional side game for anyone who wants a little more to play for. One $60 buy-in covers the entire season.

The season splits into 3 six-week trimesters. In each trimester, the member with the best record by win % wins the pot for that trimester — ties split evenly. You just have to keep picking every week to stay eligible.

FOMO Insurance

Not in this week’s parlay but don’t want to watch it hit without you? Buy in for $10 and you ride along.

If the parlay wins, you’re paid at that week’s full parlay odds on your $10 stake (after tax) — the same math as everyone in the parlay, just at your own stake. If it loses, you’re out the $10 and nothing more.

It’s optional and decided week by week, and it’s only available when you’re outof the parlay — tick the box on the Submit Picks page when you send your entry in. Once the week locks you’ll see every insured member, and what they stand to win, listed under the parlay.
